    Happy halloween to you, too!
New city, not connected with anyone yet, not inclined to crash parties. Looks like a nice night in, maybe giving out candy. I don't know how popular trick-or-treating is in England.

    You? Costume?

I understand why people enjoy Halloween so much but I have never really had any appreciable fun on this holiday.

Mainly, I have never, ever been laid on Halloween. I know that's shallow, but it seems to me that if you're going to go through all the work of making a costume and then bar/party hopping, you should get something in return.

Plus there are always these super high expectations of all the fun you're going to have and you just end up drunk like normal but in clothes that are way less comfortable to vomit in.

I decided to go ahead and live out my fantasy of being Jessica Rabbit. I have two friends makin the rounds about town with me and they'll both be dressed as 1940's gangstser's; one is male the other female but both are going as my 'muscle'. I'm looking very forward to it-- regardless of whether I get laid or not. I just get a lot out of the whole ritual with or without the added perk of sex.

Sewing and attention-whoring are two of my favorite hobbies, so this is a high holy day for me, too.

K, you're gonna be one hot Jessica. Take pics!

Josh - i feel pretty much the same way....

I mean, i *do* like getting dressed up and i *have* gotten laid
on Hallowe'en, but for the most part it's like New Years to me ....
the "epic party night" that people always get SUPER amped about,
only to find average-to-mediocre things to do that they then turn INTO
a party night by getting smashed.

i keep my expectations low, ever since i was too old to trick-or-treat.

Yes, JUST like New Year's Eve. Totally.

I just spend NYE polishing my tinfoil hat and my guns in my bunker.
Sure, it may seem paranoid but look at Dick Clark and tell me there aren't fuckin' zombies on the horizon.

"Gonna steal my thunder with your dominatrix outfit again, cockblocker? Thanks."

Girls call it cockblocking too? I always figured it would be one of the following:

                      Bisquit Blocking(er)
                      Muff Blocking(er)
If you want to maintain a similar shape of the mouth while saying it Twat Blocking(er) would work, too.

Oh but wait! Elaine will be blocking the cock from entering you. Well that works pretty well too. Man, thanks for helping me work through this, guys.

Well, the rhyming thing works well.

If we wanted to get all technical about it, I guess for girls it could be called Cunt Shunting. Some women, however, feel very negative about the word "cunt" (although I am not one of them).

Yeah, mabes we'll just stick with cockblocking.

RLFLMAO... if it ever ever comes up that i could use the term cunt-shunting it would be hilarious... thanx for the laughs.

btw - im with josh on the h-ween/nye thing, but if im in a steady-relationship then my perspective changes... same as valentines-day... at least with thanksgiving and xmas, there is more of a come-one-come-all feel to it.

The correct term is cock blocking. As that is what I shall be doing.

yes, cock-blocking was (and almost always IS) the correct term... but rarely (and i HAVE seen this once or twice) it is the gal who is the pursuer and the guy is the pursuee... in that case, cunt-shunting would actually make some sense (at least to me - and particularly if the guy is gay)... roflmao...

                            Sat, November 1, 2008 - 1:24 AM
Well, I had a fabulous time despite not getting laid (though it was my choice, so I can't really offer it as a quantifiable variable to teh overall fun I had or might not have had if that had been a expected variable).

This was the first Halloween I've celebrated in an *adult* way--going out with friends to parties/bars and not just trick or treating with my tribe of kiddo's-- in 9 years! So, for me it was a blast to just mingle with all these other crazy Halloween lovers. To see all the incredibly creative costumes...and I even met a Batman that made his own costume out of liquid black rubber poured into a plaster cast that he sculpted himself months ago, as well as an uber awesome 1940's USO pinup girl that captured the exact look, vibe and even lingo...both of which had my libido turbocharged and drooling. (Tonights Batman actually came damn close to redeeming my least favorite of superhero's simply due to being so damn creative).

Anyway, there are some pics that I'll post sometime tomorrow after I finish prepping food for this party I'm catering for 300 + folks tomorrow night. (Just as a side note, this is precisely WHY I can't stand when people don't RSVP...there could be 100, 300 or 500 and I have to be prepared for all possible scenario's. *UGH*)

Oh, and it was so cool to actually have a recognizable costume this time around. Jessica Rabbit apparently made an impression on our culture with or without having Roger Rabbit as a prop. I used to dress up as various famous redheads but I always needed at least one other person as a supporting role (sometimes in a completely inter-dependent way) to make it work, i.e Daphne (from Scooby Doo), Ginger (from Gilligan's Island), Magenta (from Rocky Horror), etc. There was always Lucille Ball, and folks recognized her without having a prop most of the time.

One thing my date noticed was that when a woman dons a sexy costume it is the one time that it is absolutely okay to ogle her, which in and of itself isn't all that surprising, but what he noticed was that AFTER said person would notice my comically enhanced cleavage (thanks to duct tape) they would immediately look to my face to see if I *caught* them ogling me, then quickly scan the guy I was with for signs of animosity or challenge. Once he clued me into this I saw it everywhere!!!

Another thing I noticed was that this day--Halloween-- allows for a certain sense of camaraderie among females that I don't encounter often. Because we're all dressed up as something or someone other than daily selves there is no *threat*. We're all stepping outside of ourselves and embracing being the *other*, so jealousy and envy seems to be a non-issue, whereas in day to day life if a woman looks *this good* or *that bad* we tend to notice and cast shallow judgment. But on Halloween if someone looks great at whatvever character she's emulating, there's a sense of appreciation.

I also ran into my 20 year old daughter tonight just outside of a bar. She was dressed as a Russian mail order bride, but the only way anyone would know this was due to her taking on the mannerisms and accent of that character. I chatted with her for about 15 minutes and she remained fully in character the entire time!!! I was so proud.

Oh, and my oldest son dressed up as a super-hero with very low self esteem. I wish I could give more details, but alas- in keeping with his age-- he wanted very little to do with me. But it was a fabulous concept costume nonetheless.

I always call New Years Eve the big fake orgasm. I've had some really great New Years but for the most part I just think it is way over rated and everyone is just running around trying to prove how much fun they are having so that later they will have a good story to tell and not feel like a loser, rather than actually having fun.

Having worked in the bar/club scene for several years, we used to call NYE "Amateur Night". I spent the '99/'00 hoop-de-do with a half dozen friends in my living room.

Halloween, though, represents something different - to me anyway. My circle of friends regularly plans parties with themes, and my house is usually in some stage of elaborate costume production. As an avid amateur seamstress and former theatre nerd, my appetite for costuming is rarely satisfied.

No costume for me this year. I had big plans to be Uhura from Star Trek but then I was way too lazy to work it out. My son has a little lion costume and he's been enjoying running around roaring all day. Later we are going to do some early hours toddler trick or treating and then later hand out candy at our house. We live in a huge trick or treating neighborhood and people come from surrounding neighborhoods to hit the streets here because they are so good. I have eight bags of candy and still I'm worried I might run out.
It is going to be interesting too because my son has no idea what candy is. He has a pretty healthy diet and we don't really eat a whole lot of stuff like that. Today will be his introduction. I have no idea if he is going to go hog wild or just taste it and move on.

God help you if he doesn't taste it and move on. I've seen kids just go bonkers the first time they have candy and they ALWAYS puke. But since they're never my kids it's always funny.

So, my son didn't figure out that those shiny little packages that people were giving him were candy. He just loved playing with them and then handing them out to kids who came to our door. He thinks Pixie Sticks are especially fun to gather and spread out on the floor and then put back in his candy bucket.
We haven't eaten any in front of him so I guess he doesn't get that they are edible and I am sure not going to do anything to clue him in. He had a great time. I think just the idea that you can walk up to almost any house and bang on the door and they will open it and give you something was good enough for him.

            Cutest lion cub evar!

I had very few trick-or-treaters at my house, but there were tons of them at Elaine's when I went by to pick her up. And I saw none of the annoying teenage ones who have no sense of shame about still doing this when they've turned 14 or more.

So how much cock did Elaine block? I have this image of her flat-out tackling a cock that was Anne-bound. Just really puttin' a shoulder to it to make sure you don't score.

It's hard to say (excuse the pun). I went so far as to affix battery-powered lights to my costume to draw attention from the male of the species, but as soon as they see Elaine they are diverted, then shunned. She is not so much a tackler as a tease.
                • Re: No sugar high!

                  Mon, November 3, 2008 - 9:46 AM
Anne - Ah but you're missing your chance! Elaine is actually maiming them so that you can go in for the kill while they're still stunned from the shunning. Yes, I know people think of leftovers poorly but everyone is someone's leftovers, and some things are actually better reheated. Never underestimate the gratitude a freshly shunned man feels towards a woman who shows him a bit of warmth (hey, warmth isn't the same as heat but even a few embers can be blown on to increase the temperature and reduce shrinkage due to the coldness of rejection). You know, if you're just looking for hot man action more than anything else.

No doubt, it is sometimes being mistreated by an evil blonde harpy that can make a man appreciate the tender warmth of someone sweet.

Oh, wait. I am neither tender nor sweet. Scratch that strategy, then.

Dudette, you're screwed then.....uggg, you're unscrewed now and then! However, the use of "harpy" indicates that you are a woman of the world and the word and Elaine may just be blocking substandard cocks and was, in fact, doing you a favor.

                                      that kind of time.

I am going to Tillum for a nice beach wedding at a resort, and then we shall see. I want to go to Playa del Carmen and such like.
I am looking for down time on a beach and no stress.. My bf is in Ecuador right now and will meet me in Mexico. He has traveled a lot more than me, and isn't big on the tourist crap. I tend to like the familiar a bit at first , as I have not traveled out of the country too much and hate things places and people I cant control or micro manage. I am getting better about that.

I also am in great hatred of stomach ailments

So if anyone has suggestions for me to go visit, let me know.

                                          >> stomach ailments

i assume you know all the "tricks" and "advice". my personally really-useful two pieces of advice occurred during my 3-week trip to india many years ago (no, i did not get sick while there). one i knew-before, the other i learned during-after:

1 - bring a portable water-filter-thingie (camping stores). they work (altho the water will taste "flat" cuz it really DOES work). if you are ever unsure (lots of tips im sure youve heard), then go ahead and filter it.

2 - beware of ICE. i did not think about it during my trip - and it was never offered i think. but on the tarmac (in the plane) while LEAVING india, i went ahead and had a coke (with ice in the cup)... i was "sick" for a couple days (in germany, my next destination)...

unsolicited, but there ya go... have fun, h.

Yeah, he's been working the tourist in that turban for a long long time now. I used to see him out at clubs at night and he would have his dreds out, hitting on chicks and it was funny seeing him walk around just being normal.

i don't know anything about venice beach. i'm not from cali.
i just thought it was interesting to meet the guy.

I let Anne go free range after all. What she did with her freedom was her concern. I had enough trouble getting people to have conversations with my face rather than my boobs.

                          A good Halloween though.

K- your picture of your costume was great. You nailed it as Jessica rabbit.

it's really hard to not be that guy.
i struggle w/it all the time.

Seriously. It was not at all typical Elaine dress style, but they were mos def hypnotically out there.

Plus, they were better conversation at times.

Aw baby, don't be like that!

Look it works like this: When we go on a date, we shouldn't be looking at the boobies. When we're at work, we shouldn't be looking at the boobies. When we're in line at the grocery store, we shouldn't be looking at the boobies. But when you put us in a target-rich environment full of semi-exposed boobies, we're going to run out of discipline after talking to the first girl. It's like being on a diet and going to IHOP: YOU try ignoring all that bacon and cheese!!

Josh - Really, there's nothing wrong with appreciating the boobage - we all do it, men and women alike (and little kids too). Boobs are the best. Really, they are. (Except when running for the bus or jogging.) Even most Gay men love boobs, particularly a well dished up rack. Really, who doesn't love boobs? And what fool doesn't appreciate them when they have the chance (and the person so kind as to offer them up for appreciation)? Women are just as guilty as men of checking out the boobs in my experience, they just don't tend to forget that they're part of a person or get quite so unable to string together coherent thoughts.

Oh don't mind me, I was grumpy.
I am catching a cold and I am flying to Cancun in a few days so I am trying to run around getting the house in order, get my beloved dog taken care of, and pack some. I dont deal with stress well sometimes.
I dont show off the girls that much anyway. I know what I am doing when I do that...

So sorry for the grumpy snark.

Dude, Tay is putting way too much weight on Nichelle Nichols' shoulders. She's just an actress after all. I mean I had always heard the story about Martin Luther King encouraging her to not quit but still it doesn't mean she is more than an actress who takes parts like any other actor does. I don't see anyone over analyzing Ben Kingsley for doing movies like Sexy Beast after he played Ghandi.

And as for the sugar, I don't think I will let him get to the puking point.

No costumes and no jack-o-lanterns this year, which is unusual for us. This year, we are going to pay homage for Dia de los Muertos. My dad and my son's dad both passed this last Spring and we're going to honor them. next year, life will hopefully be less crazy and we'll have time for the fun traditions again.

I'm dressed as a Zapatista at work today with a bowl of low-budget candy on my desk (what the hell is Charleston Chew, anyway?), most of which I have eaten myself. I stayed up late last night making my cardboard machine gun.

    I love Halloween.
