This a great BBC documentary about the twin rise of Islamic Fundamentalism and the Neo-Cons that traces it back to the roots. It's not new so some of you may have already seen it but since it deals - honestly - with some of the lies that are being sold to people around the world, it seemed like it might be a good fit here. It's also got great interviews with key political players talking about their roles and beliefs.

It's less about exposing conspiracies and more about the general stupidity of humans and how we buy into our own lies...and the culture of fear that has been consciously cultivated around the world.

I tend to listen to these while doing something else.. not generally having the time to watch something....and it is often not necessary to watch, only listen...

You know I like history. And it often gives a much better understanding of politics and world events and influences. Previous focuses on identifying how people want the world to be and creating a narrative in that image can be a very powerful force domestically and internationally.. to try to understand this - it is always great to knows some of their motives, methodologies and aims, not just the current players, but those who preceded them and then inspired and influenced those who followed, including us....

I can see the same type of conscious creation of ideological (and religious) narrative and influence in Australian politics over the Howard years (and before, people love to point how conservatives like Bush, Thatcher and Howard try to influence, and indeed dictate, how we think by creating our sense of self through 'stories'..) - but many politicians do it. You can often see this in history. For instance the way Obama calls for American to retake it's international respect from other nations. This assumes that respect is needed and necessary, and it plays on and exploits the national subconscious of individuals.

Interesting and important stuff - especially as the video concerns how some of the rhetoric and ideas people present, and some accept, as axioms and that play an important role in many conflicts we see in today's world....
