What do you like about EH?

Since we're all spending our time here, it seems kinda safe to assume that most of us like something about this tribe or get something from it (even the people who read but don't participate). I'm curious, what *do* people like about EH?

I like that there are quite a few smart sassy ladies and gentlemen who hang here who are straight up kinda people.

I like that some of the people who post here are wickedly funny (I like wicked and funny), and not above being silly (in a fun way). I get quite a few laughs from this tribe - from laughing with others, at others sometimes and at myself.

I like it that good discussions and debates break out on all kinds of topics, and that there's usually *some* form of discussion going on that's far enough away from what I'm working on that it serves as a diversion.

I like it that most people in EH are generally pretty respectful and kind when someone *does* post here with a genuine life conundrum or emotional issue that's bugging them that they want an honest outside opinion on.

    I like the diversity of ideas presented. I like that I can see different veiwpoints than my own presented and learn more about how people see things. I don't feel like there is a whole bunch of canned or reconstitutied opinion on this tribe. There seems to be plenty of critical thinking here, that I appreciate. It makes you think carefully about what you post, because if you are being lazy, sloppy or whatever someone is sure to call you on it.

      This is a biggie for me. I think it keeps people from writing from a strictly emotional standpoint, which often can become irrational. Knowing that people aren't just going to smile and nod when you say something keeps people a little more aware of how they're acting, I think.

      On a personal note, Fido, I've been waiting for a subject to come up where we disagree so we can mix it up a little. Sadly, though, I have thoroughly enjoyed your posts thus far and haven't had the chance to...yet...

        the members (many of, anyways)
        the sense of humour that sometimes surfaces so brilliantly
        critical thinking and debate


        and the fact that we call it 'eh', which fills my little canadian heart with joy.
        even though i deny endlessly that we use that word.

    honestly, i like looking at a whole buncha different types of crazy in one place all trying to make sense of each other. or not. if they're not trying to make sense of each other they're trying to convince everyone else's brand of crazy that their brand of crazy is "right." sometimes it's quite explicit, sometimes it's a little more roundabout . . . ahhh, the different levels of crazy. fascinating.

    Fifi, You pretty much covered it. Nod at everything you said. I discussed this same issue with a RL friend who is not particularly computer savvy and still thinks online means on a line. (probably!) It really forces you to think hard to describe it to someone like that and help them understand what you get out of it.

    I will disclose that I do have an academic interest in this tribe and it fascinates me for that reason also. I did write an academic thesis on the practice of extreme honesty and explored a great deal of the literature and studies on the phenomenon of lying in everyday life. So I was very excited when I came upon this cocktail party. I’m not planning on doing any formal research on EH and I would tell you if I was. I’ve moved on in my work life. Just thought I’d mention it because it is one of the things I really like about EH. I get to explore something that I really value -EH- with other people who also really value it. It’s sort of amazing really…

    EH is a lot like panning for gems.. there is a lot of mud, water and sand to sift through - sometimes the odd nasty sharp stone.. but when you see a shiny gem sparkling away in the middle of all the other stuff you're not especially interested in - you know that it was worth the effort and the wait..... and the type of gems you find are often not what you set out to find - or even realised existed :)

    I like EH for the Gems here :)
