It's all fate. It's all what it will be. It's in the cards and it's in the plan. A plan for me and you and your offspring.

Are you kidding me that you think your vote makes a fuckin' difference in how it will all end up? In the end? My gosh. It's all a game, it's all destiny.

I would like to posit that without any votes 'destiny' would have been much different.
I guess we can all just rest easy and stop making any effort to do anything? I think that we cannot prove destiny even if it does exist. If it is destiny, we were also destined to vote so destiny could prevail.

I can kinda see your point, I am a big believer in the absence of control in it's commonly perceived form. The difference is that I believe in such a lack of control that I also don't believe in some greater plan. I tend to believe that belief in a plan is a way to justify things we do or do not like. The bad things are merely a precursor to the good things, the good things are all part of the plan. The danger in this thought is that it can cause people to become complacent.

In any event, it was part of a plan. It was Obama's plan and the plan of everyone who voted for him and supported his efforts to attain the presidency. Plans are nothing without action.

The rationale behind the opening post of this thread is...well, completely irrational. Fate and destiny and all that lives in the realm of impossible to prove and impossible to disprove. Because of that I'd be perfectly willing to have a conversation about whether or not [this or that] is fated, destined, etc. but I can't, not can any rational person, respond to this topic with the premise of destiny being a given, or a *fact*, because it's not. Not now, anyway. We've never successfully established that fate or destiny exist any more than we've ever established that unicorns exist or existed.

So, if ya wanna have a conversation about what socio-political, economic, cultural and perhaps even *spiritual* events occurred that then led to the outcome of this election, then count me in. But to paint all of the above with the broad brush of "fate" or "destiny" is not debatable for the simple fact that there is no consensus on such a thing existing or not existing.

Well, that might explain a few things, Wild.

Personally, I've always seen the "fate/destiny" card as a total and complete cop out. It's used to justify any and everything without any acknowledgment of personal responsibility. Something good happens, it's fate or destiny at work. Something bad happens, it's the same explanation (perhaps with an unhealthy dose of westernized 'karma' thrown in). At what point do these believers in fate and destiny actually acknowledge that they had a hand in whatever the outcome may be? Well, I imagine they might come close when the outcome is one that they desire...then they can claim that their power of prayer and positive visualization did the trick --and thereby undermine and invalidate the efforts of those that actually DID have a proactive hand in the outcome.

And when it comes to finding so called *proof*, it's fairly easy to focus only on those situations that *seem* to verify the fate/destiny variable because that's what these folks are actively looking for. Anything that throws a monkey wrench into the mix can then be retroactively explained using the same irrational thinking that initially led to the fate/destiny explanation. I mean, for such believers, is there ANYTHING that can't be explained with this explanation? No. And that's why it's so irrational.

destiny is how you play them."

While I generally enjoy your succinct, often poignant and pat on soundbites Wild, I have to disagree with this one...though it's quippy and would make for a good response at the next cocktail party I attend (not so popular these days though soit may be awhile before I can use it). Fate doesn't deal cards. Fate is nothing more or less than the culmination of the aforementioned socio-political, economic, cultural and spiritual (religious) issues one is exposed to throughout life. Destiny might be likened to how one chooses to perceive those issues and then how one chooses to act because of or even in spite of them. But I don't consider that destiny. I consider that education (hopefully) and conditioning (can't always be helped).

well, in my mind people don't choose the conditions under which they are born.

rich, poor, black, white, red, female, male, parents, orphaned, etc.

or even some of the larger things that happen to them

such as natural disaster, accidents, etc.

I wholeheartedly agree that people cannot choose the circumstances under which they are born. That's on the shoulders of their predecessors due to...socio-political, economic, cultural and spiritual/religious issues. And where we come from does, in one fashion or another, dictate the lives we will lead, the things we'll be exposed to and therefor the choices that we make that will then lead to our children being born under the circumstances we've lived with-- based on all of the above mentioned criteria. And so the cycle continues, hopefully for the better, but not always.

And yes, perhaps I'm a judgmental and opinionated pain in the ass. I give margin for that. But I tend toward being a judgemental and opinionated pain in the ass more so when it comes to issues of folks born into priviledge and entitlement and then acting as if everything is somehow out of their hands...i.e., fated and destined.

In fact, I agree with everything you just said, including the larger things like natural disasters and accidents. I just don't see them as fated or destined, at least not on a solely human scale. IF there is such a thing as fate or destiny then I find it highly unlikely that it would focus all of its collective energy on karmic retributions only the human race/hominid species. Though, it is often said that fate is blind so perhaps I'm wrong.

                      Webster's definition:
                      Destiny
                      1. The inevitable or necessary fate to which a particular person or thing is destined; one's lot.
                      2. A predetermined course of events considered as something beyond human power or control: “Marriage and hanging go by destiny” (Robert Burton).
                      3. The power or agency thought to predetermine events: "Destiny brought them together"

                      Antonyms: choice, free will, volition

That's all I'm getting at, Wild. My definition of destiny is that which I was raised with, Webster's. My perception of teh term is that it removes any and all personal control, accountability and responsibility. Obviously, this is not your definition. I think we're saying the same thing, but our semantics are in opposition.

I don't believe it for a moment. For me I am the master of my fate and I pay the price for my decisions. I am active in politics. I change peoples minds and I act on a local level.

Sure on the national level you may feel very small. But in the larger scope of things individuals do make a difference.

Perhaps your own self esteem makes you feel small. Perhaps you are a small waste of carbon. That is your business.

Think about this though.. the election of 2004 was lost on an average of 3 votes per precinct.

How will it end in the end? The universe will run out of fuel entropy will exert it's force the universe will cool and we will become a cold universe. As for God... He's dead. We killed him long ago. Nietzsche announced it in the late 1800's. What we have now is simply the realm of our making.

Please feel free to feel as ya do. The Corperatists want you to... Mindless drones to carry out their wanton orgy of profit taking.

As for me. I am not a sheep. I do not follow and I try to make change. I hope others do though I acknowledge that most are incapable of it.

So please do not vote, do not act but for the sake of the world at large... SHUT THE FUCK UP.

Live in your world of apatyhy but do not drag down those that in time will make the changes you enjoy.

I am happy to live in a nation that brave men and women decided they could make a difference. Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, Patrick Henry, Alexander Hamiton, James Madison, Abe Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Susan B Anthony, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Dwight D Eisenhower, Martin Luther King, The Weathermen, Ken Kesey, Jimmy Carter, Jesse Jackson, Cesar Chavez, The list goes on... All people that refused to be complacent. All people that never gave up.

It is not all fate... It is hard fucking work pain loss and energy

The problem with not being involved in politics is that you may be governed by someone less intelligent than yourself. I mean look at the current president ......

It is good to question the system though .... At least in my opinion. So if you go to you tube and type in esoteric agendas and watch a few of the 13 part series you might learn some things you may or may not want to know.

So my question to you all is would you rather know more of the deep dark secrets? Or live blindly believing what you see on the news, or in the paper, or on CNN, or Fox News?

OP's? Not quite sure what that means but either way quell seems to have nailed a line from a song in a fairy tale. Nothing more. But if you research the video i wrote about above, and then research some of what it talks about, you'll find that what i was referring to has nothing to do with fairy tales or make believe. I was simply saying that some things are not as they seem and it's better to ask more questions and come to your own conclusions than to blindly believe everything you hear.

Btw i didn't read everyones post up to my first. I only responded to the original post and the ones succeeding mine. Not to any others.

Oh i see, OP's is original poster. Sorry it's been quite a while.
And i do see how you could reference a fairy tale in response to the original post. But i don't think that she's completely off. I mean THEY do have their own plans for our future just as they have in our past. I'm telling you check out the you tube videos i talked about. Watch the first three at least. Maybe you'll have something better to say than references to fairy tales ... ya never know until you look and decide for yourself.

You tube "esoteric agendas." Try it ... If nothing else i promise it will at least add to this conversation. If not make you think ...

Ok Nick I did the search I watched a bit... I was raised Pagan. I know the precepts that are put for but I am deeply offended by how the producer or writer has played fast and loose with small parts of numerous beliefs to come up with a comprehensive, <allegedly> theory. So I suggest that we all follow lwhat you put forth and gather up children to sacrifice as the Maya, Aztecs and Celts did.

Ya can't mix and match it to suit agenda.. Bottom line is if ya have to cherry pick it the Esoteric portions have to go away as unprovable otherwise all actions must be deemed correct and proper.

The Illuminati causing the American Revolution... Yeah I buy into that especially after reading the Federalist Papers, the writings of Ben Franklin and the writings of Jefferson.

Do some separate research. I notice in the whole episode I wrote not a single reference is given... It is only so much as Esoteric Bullshit and the convenient interpretations of a conspiracy theorist.

But that's exactly what the heirarchy's do ...

Funny too you say "convenient interpretations." So do you also think that George W. is and was a great president? Or that it was just "convenient" that the only state to call a recount in his second election was Florida, a state governed "conveniently" by his brother?? Or that the only reason we are involved in the middle east is because of "weapons of mass destruction."
Keep believing everything your told JSin, your quiet little life is much safer that way. Believe in weapons of mass deception, that way everything makes perfect sense. Right??
Do you have a room in your house dedicated to FDNY too? REMEMBER 9/11, be patriotic, covered in the American flag and all that too? Maybe some of those support our troops magnets? All your supporting is facade ......
