    too true...

and sadly, whether it does any good or not,
the desire to lecture seems to be contagious.

Sure it does wild! Maybe not for them but I figure us having a laugh is all good. Seriously, there's nothing much one can do against evangelicals EXCEPT laugh at them (reason certainly ain't gonna work, they've got faith). Whether they're the Watchtower ladies knocking at your door, Scientologists trying sell you on their alternative "treatments" for mental illness, random crazy homeless guy who thinks it's his mission to smear Christ's word around like yesterday's garbage or Fundies mongering their fear, the only rational thing one can do is laugh (aside from getting them committed if they appear to be a danger to others).

Fifi, I find that putting them through a vigorous test of their own falsifiability does wonders. Of course, they'll always counter it with the *faith card*, but it also allows me access into yet one more completely irrational perception that I can then pre-emptively protect myself from. it's a win-win as far as I can tell. Show me one, just ONE, evangelical/new ager/ fundamentalist that can and WILL question the validity of their belief system...or at least make the attempt to prove they are wrong, using all available evidence, and then discover that their perception is irrefutable (for now) and I'll laugh WITH them, not just AT them.

laugh or cry, I always say.

If I feel compelled to lecture the zealots, it's just to help myself drown out their mindless chattering and maybe keep the more impressionable folks from being romanced by it... of course, that's not an issue in this tribe. Plenty of strong minds here.

I distinctly recall that I am allowed a certain number of sheep...Leviticus 29:04, or something close.

Maybe it's just me, but I prefer the shotgun/tub of crisco method of dealing with people that deliberately fuck with me. Most effective.

Sam, whenever you post, I like to do a little robot dance and read your post as if if were Steven Hawking's talking machine saying it.

Well, it;s more about being able to justify a robot dance. Hawking's machine voice just goes with the theme. Though sometimes I like to robot dance to "she blinded me with science".
However, Sam is just programmed to receive whatever the kool aid fairy sends his way. Just like when the tuaca fairy tells me to burn down houses, its the same beguiling siren song of "it made sense at the time".

                Damn you, drinkies.

Well, kudos to both of you for making ANY sense out of his bizarre ramblings. Sure, you can call me a mean ass-hat if ya want for pointing out the fact that I really just DON'T GET his communication style at all, but I really don't mean it in a mean spirited way. I have *tried* many times to read Sam's posts...especially when I see that his posts have received responses in the double digits. I think to myself, "Hmmm, he MUST be saying something important", so I try again. And nearly every time I find myself simply incapable of getting through the first few pseudo-sentences. Sometimes I find my mind just drifting off into whatever else is going on in my life and other times I find myself nearing what portends to be a headache; I guess it depends on how *hard* I try to make sense of him.

And Sam, maybe you communicate effectively in person and writing is just not your strong point, but IF that's the case I highly recommend that you either a-) keep your attempts at communication to the verbal only, or b-) take it upon yourself to learn how to use written words to more effectively convey your thoughts.

I keep reading that you, Sam, are lecturing us or trying to convert us to your way of thinking...yet I can't even get that far. You simply make so sense to me. And this isn't even about using the 'English language' as an effective means of communication as I've successfully understood folks from all over this rock who could barely string two complete English sentences together. This is different. I wish I could pinpoint what it was. I think it's something along the lines of a 'holier than thou' complex coupled with way too many ellipses and perhaps a poor cocktail of neurotransmitter reuptake inhibitors. Just a guess.

"Though sometimes I like to robot dance to "she blinded me with science"."

If you listen to Where It's At by Mr. Beck, there is a part early in the song where a robut voice says, "I got two turn tables and a microphone." I always robot dance to that part, but ONLY that part. Because the rest of the song doesn't have robuts in it.

I have a Kraftwerk greatest hits album. That's almost more robot dancing than one man can stand. "We are the robots..."

And of course Kilroy is always a joy to robot to. But really, that always leads to kinky robot sex which is cool, but you only ever hear it at weddings so it usually ends up being kind of awkward.

"Is that ever any good ?"

There are times when it is. I have heard people say some of the most ignorant, ill-informed, half-assed things that I happen to know a lot (or enough) about. Nine out of ten times, they make these statements as facts, belligerantly making shit up and deciding then and there that they are adamant about their new-found and incorrect stance. Some people will take a correction and say, "Well damn, I guess I didn't know as much as I thought I did about this. That sure changes things." But more often I dress 'em down. I know you're supposed to draw more flies with honey than vinegar, but sometimes you gotta' hit a fly in the face with a baseball bat so the motherfucker pays you your money.

It's not always necessary and not always successful, but it really does have its place.

        That is so fucking funny!

Also, I've noticed that flies prefer feces to both vinegar and honey...so what does that say about talking shit? And I've always wondered, who the hell wants to draw flies anyway. I prefer there are no flies on me (so I should probably stop talking shit right about now....)
